10 years building AI that has to work.
Renegade is built by Sigmoidal, an applied-AI firm that has spent a decade shipping production AI inside the world's biggest companies, on the problems no one else can solve for them.
Sigmoidal began in 2016 with a single conviction: AI only counts when it carries real weight, running live with money and decisions riding on it. While the rest of the world debated whether AI mattered, we were already putting it to work inside businesses that couldn't afford to be wrong.
10 years in the trenches
For 10 years we put senior teams inside Fortune 500 companies and built the quiet, critical work that keeps real businesses running: the AI products, the pipelines, the day-to-day automations. A decade of that leaves you with more than code. It leaves you with judgment, hard lessons, and relationships money can't buy.
We evolved with every wave
The last 10 years rewrote the field more than once, and AI changed fastest of all. From the first time GPT-2 and GPT-3 hinted at what was coming, we kept changing with it, so our partners always had the newest tools working for them. We were never interested in demos. We care about results that hold up in the real world. A model stuck in a test build helps no one, so everything we make is built to go live.
Software engineering 3.0
Then the latest models changed the archetype entirely. What used to take a quarter can now be prototyped and delivered in days. We call this new way of working software engineering 3.0, and it is exactly what we do: move from idea to production faster than the old rules ever allowed.
The space for build
So we got picky about where we spend our time. We don't chase the general problems; the big online models and the market around them will handle those. Every company now faces the same choice, buy or build, and the general stuff sits firmly on the buy side. What's left is the build side: the AI, automations, and workflows that no vendor will ever sell off the shelf, because they only exist inside your business.
That is the only work we want, the problems we can solve with our partners that no one else can solve for them. It matters most where the stakes are highest, in finance, private equity, healthcare, supply chain, and fintech, the fields we know best.
Why we built Renegade
Then Fable 5, the most powerful model on earth, shipped on a Tuesday and was gone for everyone by Friday, killed by a single government letter. For years we'd helped clients build around exactly this weak spot, one vendor holding the off switch. Now we watched it happen in public, in three days. The world's biggest companies have teams to absorb a shock like that. Everyone else just loses the tools they depend on, overnight.
You can keep renting your intelligence from five companies. We'd rather own ours.
Renegade is that conviction, packaged for everyone: a free, open-source app that runs any model, online or fully local, so the intelligence you rely on can never be switched off by someone you can't call.
